Within the fashionable Xintiandi enclave, a two-story traditional ‘Shikumen’ (stone-gated) building has been preserved as a small but fascinating museum. Completed in 1920 as the residence of a Communist Party member and his brother, it was forged in history when 13 members secretly held the first National Congress of the Communist Party of China here on 23 July 1921, marking the birth of the Communist Party.

Just five minutes’ drive from the hotel, the 10,000sqm water wonderland showcases more than 300 varieties of aquatic wildlife beneath Changfeng Park lake. Guests of all ages will be enchanted by the White Whale Show and Penguin World.

Tianzifang has been transformed from old factories and classic stone-gated homes into an artsy area housing an eclectic collection of bars, cafes, craft shops, design studios, galleries and boutiques. The narrow lanes become crowded at weekends.
